Employees at the Starbucks location in downtown Cleveland have petitioned the National Labor Relations Commission (NLRB) for a union representative election. Cleveland Starbucks is the first unionized store in Ohio to do similar work across the country, including Boston, Buffalo, Chicago and Seattle.

Starbucks workers are arrogant as “partners” in corporate terms, but workers say they felt like “machine gears” during a pandemic.
“We are not just looking at the title of’partner’, but as the best way to achieve a true partnership,” the letter says. “Through this union, we are working on the goal of improving our work life, establishing equality and equality within our stores and our company, and our role in moving the company forward. By signing these principles, Starbucks can prove that: We are our partners in this effort. ”
Cararovela, 22, is a barista and barista trainer in the sixth location west of Cleveland. Rovella said the unionization process was proceeding very quickly and local workers were inspired by the unionization efforts at the Buffalo site.

Lovera suspected that Starbucks would not voluntarily approve the Cleveland union. If Buffalo was the guide, the company would postpone the vote and take various steps to oppose the union’s efforts. But when the National Labor Relations Commission votes, a simple majority of the 20 workers in the place is all that is needed to form a union.
“After all, we like working at Starbucks, we’re focused on it, and we want to do it better, so we’re doing this,” Roberta said. “I hope this will be the stage for the rest of the region and people will begin to think,’Hey, we don’t have to endure injustice.
