Defender Nick Hagglund will return to FC Cincinnati after signing the deal until the 2023 season.
Originally from Cincinnati, Hagrund is a former member of the club that played in Major League Soccer in 2019. The team won him on January 23, 2019 in a trade from Toronto FC.
He is the club’s best-ever leader in minutes played (4,215) and second-ever appearance in the club (57).
“We are excited to see Nick return to FC Cincinnati,” General Manager Chris Albright said in a news release on Friday. “He culturally embodies how we want to form a team, and his leadership and experience are important to our group.”
The monetary terms of the deal were not announced, but the club said Hagrund would also act as a club ambassador to facilitate his and his team’s work in the Cincinnati community.
29-year-old Hagrund has played 24 times in FC Cincinnati last season, starting 17 times before the end of the season with a broken wrist. He scored one goal.
During his MLS career in Toronto (2014-18) and Cincinnati, Hagrund made 145 appearances (112 starts) with seven goals and four assists.
